6th Grade Rising Star Team Roster
The OBGC Rising Star basketball program provides a place for middle school girls and boys to play Travel basketball. The travel program is designed for parents and children that are interested in playing in a more competitive basketball and coaching environment. The teams are administered and sponsored by OBGC and we play in the league organized by the Montgomery County Department of Recreation. OBGC has built a great tradition of coaching in the Rising Star league and whose record of winning is strong. In the travel program, there are no playing-time minimums and Rising Star leadership and Individual coaches select their teams after an open tryout. You do not need to register before tryouts for the Rising Star league. It is highly recommended that parents registrer their kids for house leagues to guarentee them a spot if they do not make a travel team.
If you are interested in coaching in the Rising Star league, please e-mail Ken Bradford @ email@example.com
Girls teams will be determined after tryouts depending on the number of girls in each age group. If you are interested in coaching or playing on a girls Rising Star team please e-mail your interest to firstname.lastname@example.org
Tryouts - Rising Star conducts an open tryout for all grade levels, which are held during the month of October. Each team/age group usually has 2-3 tryout dates. Each team carries a maximum of 12 players.
Season Duration - After the teams are selected, teams begin to practice in mid-November. There are usually two practices per week. Games begin the first week of January and continue thru mid-March. There is a single elimination playoff tournament at the end of the season that is run by the Rising Star league.
Game and Practice Locations - Practices are held in the Olney area for the most part and could be at any of the local schools. The County also gives one night a week for practice, but they try to keep this as close to Olney as possible.
Games can and will be played at different locations throughout Montgomery County. Most games are played in High School gyms. Rising Star has a 10-game season with the majority of the games being played on Sunday afternoons or evenings. There are two games per season on Saturday evenings. When schools are closed due to inclement weather, all Rising Star games are cancelled. No exceptions.
Coaches – We are always looking for good people to help with different aspects of coaching. All OBGC baseketball coaches are involved in the program because of their dedication to teaching kids the game of basketball. All coaches are required to pass a mandatory background check and be NYSCA certified or they cannot coach.
Uniform - Players are expected to purchase a team uniform. The cost is separate from the registration fee. No jewelry is allowed to be worn during practices and games.
Additional Information – The use of gyms is a privilege we are given and not a right. All parents and children have to abide by the rules of gym use or that gym time may be restricted or removed from OBGC’s use. All parents are responsible for their children adhearing to these rules. Registration fees are used for MC League Fees, gym time, referees and equipment. Players in the Rising Star league may also play OBGC House basketball but must be registered and paid for both leagues.
