OBGC Soccer Joins Elite U.S. Soccer Development Academy

Unique Partnership Focused On Developing the Best Players in the World

Olney MD --- OBGC (Olney) Soccer and Bethesda Soccer Club developed a joint relationship and are selected to enter the elite U.S. Soccer Development Academy, known for developing the best soccer players in the country and providing them with the most advanced player development training. Olney’s and Bethesda’s participation in the Academy league will include a team made up of players from both organizations which will compete in the following age divisions, U18/17, U16/15, and U14/13. The boys’ teams will compete in the U18/17 & U16/15 Eastern Conference of the Atlantic Division Academy League and the U13 & U15 Eastern Conference of the Atlantic Division Northeast Pre-Academy League.

“We are appreciative that after a comprehensive application and review process, U.S. Soccer has chosen our organizations as Academy Clubs and has recognized the success of our teams and our player development programs over the years,” said Pete Wood, Director of Soccer at OBGC. “We are excited for what the Academy program will mean to the most elite soccer players in Montgomery and Howard County and the national exposure the Academy program will bring for all of them as college-bound players.”

The OBGC Travel development program and the Bethesda program will supplement their highly successful efforts with the Academy’s Player Development Program through training and games to be played against the top soccer clubs.   In order to build the best Academy program in the country, OBGC is teaming up with a long-time friend in Bethesda Soccer to provide a unique geographic offering that spans southern Montgomery County, Howard County and the DC and Baltimore suburbs and will utilize the best facilities in the area.

“Our organizations are committed to fielding Academy teams that will win at the national level by utilizing our strengths and eliminating the potential mediocrity that comes when talented players gets dispersed across teams that only know how to compete for players against each other,” said Dan Dionisio Chair of OBGC. “This is a historic partnership between two strong soccer programs that sets aside organizational boundaries and enables us to work together to offer something special to players, including the very best training and facilities anyone can find in the mid-Atlantic region.”

“The bond between Bethesda Soccer Club and OBGC continues to grow as we add this to offering we provide players through the Olney Bethesda Soccer League, said Greg Dillon, Bethesda Soccer Club, Inc., President.  "Bethesda is proud to partner with OBGC in the US Soccer Development Academy and will build off the respective strengths of each organization to complement each other and provide a strong foundation on which to build success.”

OBGC and Bethesda SC have developed a strong bond between the clubs over the years and share a similar approach and philosophy in how to develop players and build their respective soccer programs. Several years ago, both organizations embarked on the implementation of a program structure that better aligns the technical and tactical strengths of their coaches with the needs of players at all ages.   For information about tryouts, please visit www.obgcsoccer.org
